Asmaa Mahfouz

Asmaa Mahfouz, born on February first, nineteen eighty-five, is a distinguished Egyptian political activist, human rights defender, writer, and journalist. She is celebrated as one of the founding members of the April 6 Youth Movement, a pivotal organization in the fight for social justice and political reform in Egypt.

Her influence surged in the lead-up to the 2011 Egyptian revolution when she posted a compelling video blog that played a crucial role in igniting a mass uprising. This act of courage and leadership has been recognized by prominent journalists, including Mona Eltahawy, who credit her with helping to mobilize the youth of Egypt against oppression.

In addition to her activism, Mahfouz is a key figure in Egypt's Coalition of the Youth of the Revolution, where she has emerged as one of the leading voices advocating for change. Her efforts were internationally acknowledged when she was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in two thousand eleven, alongside notable figures such as Ahmed al-Senussi and Mohamed Bouazizi, for their contributions to historic changes in the Arab world.
