Audrey Flack

Audrey Flack, born on May 30, 1931, is a renowned American visual artist celebrated for her pioneering contributions to the art genre of photorealism. Her diverse body of work spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography, showcasing her exceptional talent and versatility.

Flack's academic achievements are impressive, holding both a graduate and an honorary doctoral degree from Cooper Union in New York City. She also earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Yale University and studied art history at the New York University Institute of Fine Arts. In May 2015, she was honored with a Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Clark University, where she delivered a commencement address.

Her artwork is prominently featured in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Notably, her photorealistic paintings were the first of their kind to be acquired for the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection, solidifying her legacy as a significant influence on both American and international artists.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Flack is an accomplished banjo player and was the lead vocalist for Audrey Flack and the History of Art Band, which released an album in two thousand twelve. She was also one of the first female artists included in Janson's History of Art with the publication of its third edition in nineteen eighty-six.
