Ava Gardner, born on December 24, 1922, was a prominent American actress who rose to fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She began her career with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1941, initially taking on minor roles. However, it was her captivating performance in the 1946 film noir, The Killers, directed by Robert Siodmak, that truly caught the attention of critics and audiences alike.

Throughout the 1950s, Gardner solidified her status as a leading lady, starring in iconic films such as Show Boat and Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, both released in 1951. Her versatility shone through in a series of action-adventure films, including The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952), Mogambo (1953), and The Barefoot Contessa (1954). The decade culminated in her performance alongside Gregory Peck and Fred Astaire in the 1959 film On the Beach.

Gardner's illustrious film career spanned three more decades, with notable appearances in 55 Days at Peking (1963), Seven Days in May (1964), The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966), and Mayerling (1968). She remained active in the industry until 1986, just four years before her passing in 1990 at the age of 67. Her role in Mogambo earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and she also received nominations for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for her performance in The Night of the Iguana.
