Bahadur Shah of Gujarat

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Bahadur Shah of Gujarat

Bahadur Shah of Gujarat, born in 1505, was a prominent sultan of the Muzaffarid dynasty, ruling over the Gujarat Sultanate from 1526 to 1535 and again from 1536 to 1537. His reign marked a significant period in late medieval India, characterized by territorial expansion and military expeditions aimed at supporting neighboring kingdoms.

After ascending to the throne through a fierce competition with his brothers, Bahadur Shah demonstrated his leadership by conquering the Malwa Sultanate in 1531. His army, which notably included the Koli tribe and Abyssinians, played a crucial role in his military campaigns, particularly during the defense against the Mughal Emperor Humayun.

In 1532, Bahadur Shah faced a formidable challenge when Gujarat came under attack from Humayun, leading to the temporary loss of his kingdom. However, he managed to reclaim his throne in 1536, showcasing his resilience and determination as a ruler.

Tragically, Bahadur Shah's life came to an untimely end when he was killed by the Portuguese while negotiating a deal aboard a ship. His legacy as a monarch who fought valiantly for his kingdom and sought alliances remains a significant chapter in the history of the Gujarat Sultanate.
