Bakir Izetbegović

Bakir Izetbegović, born on June twenty-eighth, nineteen fifty-six in Sarajevo, is a prominent Bosnian politician known for his significant contributions to the political landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is the son of Alija Izetbegović, the first president of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has undoubtedly influenced his political journey.

After graduating from the University of Sarajevo in nineteen eighty-one, Izetbegović began his career in architectural firms and later served as the director of the Construction Institute of the Sarajevo Canton. His political career commenced in two thousand, and he quickly rose through the ranks, securing a seat in the national Parliament during the two thousand six general election.

In the two thousand ten general election, Izetbegović was elected as the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a position he held until two thousand eighteen, having been re-elected in two thousand fourteen. His tenure was marked by significant challenges, including the aftermath of the two thousand fourteen Southeast Europe floods and widespread riots that preceded them.

As a long-standing member of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) since its inception in nineteen ninety, Izetbegović has been a key figure within the party, serving on its presidency since two thousand two and as its president since two thousand fourteen. Despite his leadership, he has faced criticism for consolidating power and silencing dissent within the party ranks.

Following the two thousand eighteen general election, Izetbegović transitioned to the national House of Peoples, where he continued to serve until two thousand twenty-three. In the two thousand twenty-two general election, he sought re-election to the Presidency but was not successful.
