Barbara Cochran

Barbara Cochran, born on January fourth, nineteen fifty-one, is a celebrated former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist hailing from the United States. Growing up in Claremont, New Hampshire, she was the second of four siblings in the renowned 'Skiing Cochrans' family of Richmond, Vermont, which has operated a small ski area in their backyard since nineteen sixty-one.

Her father, Gordon 'Mickey' Cochran, was a dedicated coach who nurtured young talents at the Smuggler's Notch Ski Club, the University of Vermont Ski Team, and the U.S. Ski Team. The Cochran family boasts a legacy of athletic excellence, with Barbara's siblings also achieving remarkable success: her sister Marilyn is a three-time national champion, her brother Bob is a nine-time national champion, and her sister Lindy is a two-time national champion. The next generation continues this tradition, with niece Jessica Kelley, nephews Jimmy Cochran, Roger Brown, Tim Kelley, Robby Kelley, and her son, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who earned silver medals in the Super-G at the twenty twenty-two and twenty twenty-six Winter Olympics.

After retiring from competitive skiing, Barbara graduated from college in Vermont, married Ron Williams, and authored the book 'Skiing for Women.' She later became a writer for The Washington Post, sharing her insights and experiences with a broader audience. Currently, she resides in Starksboro, where she runs her own business, Golden Opportunities in Sports, Business, and Life, which focuses on helping individuals manage the pressures of competition and other life challenges.

Barbara also contributes to her family's legacy by working at Cochran's Ski Area in Richmond, located in the backyard of her childhood home. Her achievements have been recognized with her induction into the National Ski Hall of Fame in nineteen seventy-six, followed by her siblings Marilyn in nineteen seventy-eight and Bob in twenty ten. In two thousand thirteen, she was honored with induction into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame, further solidifying her place in the history of American skiing.
