Barbara Lagoa

Barbara Lagoa, born on November second, nineteen sixty-seven, is a distinguished American attorney and jurist. Currently, she serves as a United States circuit judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, a position that underscores her significant contributions to the legal field.

Before her appointment to the federal bench, Lagoa made history as the first Latina and Cuban American woman to serve as a justice on the Supreme Court of Florida. Her groundbreaking achievements have paved the way for greater diversity within the judiciary.

In two thousand twenty, Lagoa was recognized as a finalist to succeed the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Although the position ultimately went to Amy Coney Barrett, her nomination highlighted her prominence and respect within the legal community.
