Baruto Kaito, born Kaido Höövelson on November 5, 1984, is a multifaceted Estonian figure known for his remarkable career as a rikishi, politician, and actor. He made his professional sumo wrestling debut in May 2004, quickly ascending to the top division by May 2006. Despite facing injury setbacks in 2007, Baruto showcased his resilience by achieving the prestigious rank of sekiwake in November 2008.
His career reached new heights when he was promoted to ōzeki after an impressive performance in the March 2010 tournament, finishing with a score of fourteen wins and one loss. Over the years, Baruto became a formidable competitor, finishing as a tournament runner-up on four occasions and ultimately securing a top division championship in the January 2012 tournament. His dedication and skill earned him five special prizes for Fighting Spirit, one for Outstanding Performance, and one for Technique.
However, injuries plagued his career, leading to the loss of his ōzeki rank by the end of 2012. After a significant drop in rank and a withdrawal from the May 2013 tournament, Baruto announced his retirement from sumo at the young age of twenty-eight.
Post-retirement, Baruto Kaito transitioned into various ventures, including mixed martial arts, acting, and politics. His political career took off in March 2019 when he was elected to the Riigikogu, marking a new chapter in his diverse professional journey.
