Bas van de Goor, born on September fourth, nineteen seventy-one, is a retired volleyball and beach volleyball player from the Netherlands. He made a significant mark in the world of sports by representing his country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, beginning with his debut in nineteen ninety-six in Atlanta.
At the Atlanta Olympics, van de Goor achieved the pinnacle of success by winning a gold medal, a feat he accomplished alongside his younger brother, Mike, who is also a three-time Olympian. The duo triumphed over their arch rivals, Italy, in a thrilling final that ended with a score of three to two. Four years later, at the Sydney Olympics in two thousand, he and his team finished in fifth place.
Throughout his career, van de Goor garnered numerous accolades, including a silver medal at the nineteen ninety-four FIVB World Championship in Greece. He also secured silver medals at the European Championships in nineteen ninety-three and nineteen ninety-five, and celebrated a gold medal victory at the nineteen ninety-seven European Championship.
His exceptional skills on the court earned him the title of most valuable player at the Olympics not once, but twice, in nineteen ninety-six and two thousand. Joop Alberda, his national volleyball coach, famously referred to him as the 'Michael Jordan of volleyball.' In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, van de Goor was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in two thousand eighteen.
