Bear Bryant

Bear Bryant, born on September 11, 1913, was a prominent figure in American college football, renowned for his exceptional coaching career. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest college football coaches in history, best known for his remarkable tenure as the head coach of the University of Alabama football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, from 1958 to 1982.

During his illustrious 25-year career at Alabama, Bryant achieved an impressive record, securing six national championships and 13 conference championships. His coaching prowess led him to hold the record for the most wins in collegiate football history, with a total of 323 victories upon his retirement in 1982. His legacy is honored through various tributes at the University of Alabama, including the Paul W. Bryant Museum and Paul W. Bryant Hall.

Bryant was also known for his distinctive style, often seen wearing a black and white houndstooth hat, despite typically donning a plaid one. His deep voice and casual demeanor, leaning against the goal post during pre-game warmups while clutching his rolled-up game plan, became iconic images of his coaching persona. Before his time at Alabama, he held coaching positions at the University of Maryland, the University of Kentucky, and Texas A&M University.
