Bebeto made a significant impact on the football world, particularly as a forward, where he showcased his exceptional skills and goal-scoring ability.

Throughout his international career, Bebeto earned a remarkable thirty-nine goals in seventy-five appearances for the Brazilian national team, making him the sixth highest goalscorer in the history of Brazil. His prowess was particularly evident during the 1989 Copa América, where he emerged as the tournament's top scorer, leading Brazil to victory. He was instrumental in Brazil's triumph at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, forming a formidable partnership with Romário that helped secure the nation's fourth World Cup title.

Bebeto's contributions to Brazilian football extended beyond the World Cup. He was part of the national team that clinched the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and earned both silver and bronze medals at the Summer Olympic Games in 1988 and 1996, respectively.
