Ben Klassen, born on February 20, 1918, was a multifaceted individual known for his roles as an author, politician, inventor, and philosopher. He gained notoriety as a prominent figure in the white supremacist movement, founding the Church of the Creator in 1973 with the publication of his influential book, Nature's Eternal Religion. Klassen's ideologies were marked by open racism, antisemitism, and anti-Christian sentiments, and he is credited with popularizing the term 'Racial Holy War' within the White Power movement.
In addition to his controversial beliefs, Klassen briefly served as a Republican state legislator in Florida and was an ardent supporter of George Wallace's presidential campaign. His political endeavors were intertwined with his religious convictions, which sought to promote a racially defined worldview.
Beyond his political and religious activities, Klassen was also an accomplished electrical engineer. He made his mark as an inventor, notably creating a wall-mounted electric can-opener. His unconventional views extended to health and diet; he was a natural hygienist who rejected the germ theory of disease and conventional medicine, advocating instead for a fruitarian, raw food diet.
