Benevenuto, born Humberto de Araujo Benvenuto on August fourth, nineteen oh three, was a notable Brazilian football player who made his mark in the world of association football. He began his career in his hometown of Rio, playing for Americano de Campos de Goytacazes before moving to Jequié de Bahia for two seasons. His talent soon caught the attention of Flamengo, where he spent five years, winning two Carioca championships and earning a call-up to the national team.
During his time with Flamengo, Benevenuto played one hundred nineteen matches, achieving fifty-six wins, seventeen draws, and forty-six losses, while scoring thirteen goals. Before the inaugural World Cup in nineteen thirty, he transferred to Atlético Mineiro. Although he was part of the Brazilian delegation to the tournament in Uruguay, he did not play in any matches.
After the World Cup, Benevenuto had a brief stint with Peñarol in Uruguay before returning to Brazil, where he played for various clubs, never remaining at any one place for more than two years. He eventually returned to Flamengo and later joined Botafogo, where he secured his third Carioca title. His career concluded at Atlético Mineiro, with his final match occurring on October eleventh, nineteen thirty-six, against Retiru, where he scored two goals.
Following the World Cup, Benevenuto represented the Brazil national team in two friendly matches, one against Yugoslavia and another against the United States, marking his only appearances for the national side. Tragically, he passed away suddenly on June twenty-fourth, nineteen forty-nine, at the age of forty-four. In a gesture of remembrance, a match was organized by referee Alberto da Gama Malscher between Botafogo and Grêmio to support his family, who faced financial difficulties.
