Benjamin Frobisher, born in England in seventeen forty-two, was the son of Joseph Frobisher and Rachel Hargrave. In the year seventeen sixty-three, he immigrated to Canada, where he joined his two brothers in the burgeoning fur trade, which was expanding into the northwest territories.
In seventeen seventy, the Frobisher brothers, in partnership with Richard Dobie, embarked on a successful fur trading expedition along the Saskatchewan River, venturing well beyond Fort Bourbon. Their achievements in the fur trade continued to grow, and by seventeen seventy-nine, they established a company that held two of the sixteen shares in the newly formed North West Company, a significant player in the fur trade.
At the time of Benjamin's passing, the northwest region was emerging as a pivotal area for the fur trade, with the North West Company poised to dominate the market. Benjamin was also one of the seventeen original founding members of the Beaver Club, a testament to his influence and commitment to the fur trade.
