Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy, born on July 17, 1994, is a French professional footballer who currently plays as a left-back for the Ekstraklasa club Pogoń Szczecin. His football journey began at Le Havre, where he progressed through the youth academy and made his debut with the reserve team in 2010. Mendy's talent quickly earned him a spot on the first team, and he played there until 2013, when he transferred to Ligue 1 side Marseille.

During his three seasons with Marseille, Mendy showcased his skills before moving to AS Monaco, where he celebrated winning the national championship in the 2016-17 season. His impressive performances caught the attention of English club Manchester City, who signed him in 2017 for a reported fifty-two million pounds, setting a world-record transfer fee for a defender at that time. Mendy enjoyed immediate success, winning the Premier League in his debut season.

However, Mendy's career faced significant challenges when he was arrested in 2021 on allegations of sexual offences, leading to his suspension from Manchester City. After enduring two trials, he was acquitted of all charges in 2023. Following his release from City in June 2023, he returned to Ligue 1, joining Lorient, and later had a brief stint with Zürich in the Swiss Super League before signing with Pogoń Szczecin in 2025.

On the international stage, Mendy made his senior debut for France in 2017, having previously represented the nation at various youth levels. His contributions were pivotal in France's successful campaign at the 2018 World Cup, where they emerged as champions.
