Benny Moré

Benny Moré, born on August 28, 1916, was a celebrated Cuban singer, conductor, and composer whose influence on Latin music remains profound. He began his musical journey in the 1940s with the Trío Matamoros, a pivotal group that helped shape the son cubano genre. After a successful tour in Mexico, Moré chose to establish his career there, marking the beginning of a remarkable trajectory in the music industry.

In 1946, Moré made his cinematic debut alongside dancer Ninón Sevilla in the film 'Carita de cielo.' However, his passion for music took precedence, and he soon became renowned for his vibrant performances of guarachas, cha cha cha, mambo, son montuno, and boleros. His collaboration with Pérez Prado in the late 1940s, where he sang guaracha-mambos, catapulted him to great success and solidified his status as a leading figure in Cuban music.

Returning to Cuba in 1952, Moré continued to collaborate with notable musicians such as Bebo Valdés and Ernesto Duarte. In 1953, he founded the Banda Gigante, which quickly rose to prominence as one of the foremost Cuban big bands of the 1950s. Despite his musical achievements, Moré struggled with alcoholism, a battle that ultimately led to his untimely death from liver cirrhosis in 1963 at the age of forty-three.
