Benoît Jutras

Benoît Jutras, born on January first, nineteen sixty-three, is a distinguished Canadian composer renowned for his innovative contributions to the world of contemporary circus music. His career took flight with Cirque du Soleil, where he initially served as music director before evolving into a composer for several of the company's iconic shows. Jutras' musical style is a rich tapestry that weaves together diverse influences, including world beat, classical, rock, trip hop, and electronica.

Among his most celebrated works for Cirque du Soleil are the mesmerizing scores for productions such as O, Mystère, Quidam, and La Nouba. Beyond the circus, Jutras has crafted original soundtracks for various high-profile projects, including Le Rêve at the Wynn resort in Las Vegas, the Glow in the Park Parade at Six Flags theme parks, and The House of Dancing Water at the City of Dreams resort in Macau. His versatility extends to film and television, showcasing his ability to adapt his unique sound to different mediums.

Originally hailing from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Jutras has made Barbados his home. He is a proud father to his daughter, Audrey Brisson-Jutras, who has made her mark as the principal character Zoé in Quidam, a performance immortalized in the show's DVD release. Jutras also shares a close bond with his brother, François Jutras, and his sister-in-law, Roxane Potvin, who is the lead singer for the Cirque du Soleil show O.

Jutras believes in the power of globalization to merge musical styles, stating, 'With globalization, a merging of musical styles is certain and the final objective is not to simply extract what is obvious but to merge the real essence of each style in order to create something authentic, innovative and fun.'
