Berenice IV

Berenice IV, born in seventy-seven BC, was a prominent figure in the Ptolemaic dynasty, known for her role as a ruling queen and Hellenistic pharaoh of Egypt. Her reign from fifty-eight to fifty-five BC marked a significant period during the political exile of her father, Ptolemy XII Auletes, who sought refuge in Rome.

During her early rule, Berenice IV shared the throne with Cleopatra VI from fifty-eight to fifty-seven BC. However, she soon ascended to become the sole ruler of Egypt in fifty-seven BC, showcasing her political acumen and strength in a tumultuous era.

Her reign came to an abrupt end with the return of her father, Ptolemy XII, who, aided by Roman military forces led by Aulus Gabinius, overthrew her. Tragically, Berenice IV was executed by her father, who later designated the throne to her half-siblings, Cleopatra VII and Ptolemy XIII, as co-rulers, further shaping the future of the Ptolemaic kingdom.
