Berhane Adere

Berhane Adere, born on July 21, 1973, is a distinguished retired Ethiopian long-distance runner renowned for her exceptional prowess in the 10,000 metres and half marathon events. Her athletic career is marked by remarkable achievements, including a gold medal in the 10,000 m at the 2003 World Championships, alongside silver medals in the same event at the 2001 and 2005 World Championships.

In addition to her success on the track, Berhane made history by winning gold and silver in the 3,000 metres at the World Indoor Championships in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Notably, her 2003 victory was Ethiopia’s first world indoor medal in a women’s event, showcasing her groundbreaking contributions to the sport.

Berhane's accolades extend to the half marathon, where she claimed the world champion title in 2002, followed by silver in 2003 and bronze in 2001.
