Bermudo III of León

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Bermudo III of León

Bermudo III of León, born in the year one thousand seventeen, ascended to the throne as king of León in the year one thousand twenty-eight. He was the son of Alfonso V of León and his first wife, Elvira Menéndez. As the last descendant of Peter of Cantabria to rule in the Leonese kingdom, Bermudo's reign was marked by both promise and turmoil.

His early years were overshadowed by the challenges of youth, as he was merely a child when he inherited the crown. Despite his tender age, he occasionally adopted the imperial title, reflecting the aspirations and ambitions of his lineage. Notably, in the year one thousand thirty, he was referred to as regni imperii Ueremundo principis, and in subsequent years, he was recognized as imperator domnus Veremudius in Gallecia and regni imperii Veremundus rex Legionensis.

However, Bermudo's reign was fraught with conflict. In the year one thousand thirty-four, he faced a significant challenge when King Sancho III of Pamplona usurped his throne, forcing him to seek refuge in Galicia. Despite his efforts to reclaim his power, he ultimately met a tragic end. In a fierce battle against his brother-in-law, Ferdinand of Castile, at Tamarón, Bermudo was defeated and killed, marking a poignant conclusion to his tumultuous rule.
