Bernadette Soubirous

Bernadette Soubirous, born on January seventh, eighteen forty-four, in Lourdes, France, was a miller's daughter who would become a significant figure in the Catholic Church. Known for her profound spiritual experiences, she is most celebrated for the apparitions of a 'young lady' that occurred between February eleventh and July sixteenth, eighteen fifty-eight. This figure, who identified herself as the 'Immaculate Conception,' requested the construction of a chapel at the nearby cave-grotto, which would later become a renowned pilgrimage site.

Following a thorough canonical investigation, Bernadette's accounts were deemed 'worthy of belief' on February eighteenth, eighteen sixty-two. This recognition led to the establishment of the Marian apparition known as Our Lady of Lourdes, which has since attracted millions of pilgrims from various denominations each year, solidifying its status as a major Marian shrine.

In eighteen sixty-six, Bernadette joined the Sisters of Charity of Nevers, where she dedicated her remaining years to religious life.
