Bernard Drainville, born on June sixth, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent Canadian politician, journalist, and television presenter. He currently serves as a member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA) for the riding of Lévis, a position he has held since the twenty twenty-two general election. Prior to this, he represented the riding of Marie-Victorin in Longueuil from two thousand seven to two thousand sixteen as a member of the Parti Québécois (PQ).
Drainville's career began in journalism, where he worked with Radio-Canada from nineteen eighty-nine to two thousand seven. During this time, he distinguished himself as an international and parliamentary correspondent and hosted various public affairs programs. His transition into politics came with the PQ in the two thousand seven general election, where he took on the role of Minister of Democratic Institutions and Citizen Participation in the Marois government, notably advocating for the contentious Quebec Charter of Values.
After resigning from his political role in two thousand sixteen, Drainville returned to the airwaves as a radio host. However, his passion for public service led him back into politics in the twenty twenty-two election under the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ). Following his election, he was appointed Minister of Education in the Legault government, a role he maintained until twenty twenty-five, after which he took on the responsibilities of Minister of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, and Minister responsible for the Maritime Strategy.
Throughout his career, Drainville has also sought leadership positions within both the PQ and CAQ, showcasing his commitment to shaping the political landscape of Quebec.
