Bernard Lagat, born on December twelfth, nineteen seventy-four, in Kapsabet, Kenya, is a distinguished former middle and long-distance runner who has made significant contributions to athletics. Before relocating to the United States, Lagat had an impressive competitive career representing Kenya, showcasing his exceptional talent on the global stage.
With a remarkable personal best of three minutes and twenty-six point thirty-four seconds, Lagat holds the Kenyan record for the 1500 meters outdoors and ranks as the second fastest 1500 meter runner in history, trailing only Hicham El Guerrouj. After obtaining American citizenship, he shattered several American records across various events, including the 1500 meters, mile, 3000 meters, and 5000 meters.
A five-time Olympian, Lagat participated in the Olympic Games of two thousand, two thousand four, two thousand eight, two thousand twelve, and two thousand sixteen. His illustrious career is highlighted by a total of thirteen medals from World Championships and Olympics, including five gold medals.
