Bernardo Bellotto

Bernardo Bellotto, born on January 30, 1721, was an Italian painter renowned for his urban landscapes, or vedute, capturing the essence of European cities such as Dresden, Vienna, Turin, and Warsaw. As the nephew and student of the illustrious Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as Canaletto, Bellotto occasionally adopted his uncle's name, signing his works as Bernardo Canaletto. This practice led to some confusion, yet it is important to note that Bellotto's artistic style diverged from Canaletto's, showcasing a more somber palette and a distinctive approach to light and shadow.

Bellotto's artistry is characterized by his meticulous representation of architectural and natural vistas, where the interplay of light and the specific qualities of each location are masterfully rendered.
