Bernie Wrightson

Bernie Wrightson, born on October twenty-seventh, nineteen forty-eight, was a renowned American artist celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the world of comics and illustration. He is best known for co-creating the iconic character Swamp Thing, as well as for his masterful adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which showcased his intricate pen and brushwork.

Wrightson's artistic journey began in nineteen sixty-six when he took on the role of illustrator for The Baltimore Sun newspaper. His talent quickly caught the attention of DC Comics, where he became a regular artist for the horror titles House of Mystery and House of Secrets starting in nineteen sixty-eight. It was in House of Secrets #92, published in July nineteen seventy-one, that he and writer Len Wein introduced Swamp Thing, a character that would soon evolve into its own monthly series, with Wrightson illustrating the first ten issues.

In nineteen seventy-four, Wrightson transitioned to Warren Publishing, where he illustrated adaptations of classic horror tales by literary giants such as Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft. His collaboration with Stephen King began with comic adaptations of the screenplay for Creepshow in nineteen eighty-two, leading to several more projects together. Wrightson dedicated several years to creating an illustrated edition of Frankenstein, which was released in nineteen eighty-three, further solidifying his legacy in the horror genre.

Later in his career, Wrightson expanded his artistic repertoire by providing concept art for various films and television series, showcasing his versatility and enduring influence in the realm of visual storytelling.
