Bertha of Swabia

Bertha of Swabia, born around nine hundred and seven AD, was a prominent figure in the Alemannic Hunfriding dynasty. Her life was marked by significant political alliances, most notably through her marriages to two kings, which elevated her status and influence in medieval Europe.

From nine hundred and twenty-two until nine hundred and thirty-seven, Bertha served as queen of Burgundy, a title she held concurrently with her role as queen of Italy from nine hundred and twenty-two to nine hundred and twenty-six. Her marriage to King Rudolph II was pivotal in establishing her royal standing.

Following her first marriage, Bertha became queen of Italy once more through her second marriage to King Hugh, reigning from nine hundred and thirty-seven until his death in nine hundred and forty-eight. Her reigns were characterized by the complexities of royal politics and the challenges of maintaining power in a turbulent era.
