Besarion Jughashvili

Besarion Jughashvili, born in 1850, emerged from humble beginnings as a peasant in Didi Lilo, Georgia. His early life was marked by the struggles of serfdom, which shaped his character and aspirations. Seeking better opportunities, he relocated to Tbilisi at a young age, where he honed his skills as a shoemaker in a factory setting.

His journey took a significant turn when he was invited to establish his own cobbler shop in Gori. It was here that he met Ekaterine Geladze, and together they welcomed three sons into the world. Tragically, only their youngest son, Ioseb, would survive to adulthood, later known as Joseph Stalin.

Once regarded as a clever and proud individual, Jughashvili faced adversity when his shop failed. This setback led him down a path of alcoholism, which strained his family ties. In 1884, he made the difficult decision to leave his family behind and return to Tbilisi, where he resumed work in a factory.

From that point onward, his life became increasingly isolated, with little contact with his wife or son. The details of his later years remain largely unknown, but it is recorded that he passed away in 1909 due to cirrhosis, leaving behind a complex legacy intertwined with the rise of his son.
