Beulah Bondi

Beulah Bondi, born on May 3, 1888, was a distinguished American character actress renowned for her ability to portray eccentric mothers, grandmothers, and wives. Her acting journey began in the late nineteenth century, where she captivated audiences as a young child in theater. By 1925, she had firmly established herself as a Broadway stage actress, reprising her role in the film adaptation of Street Scene in 1931.

Throughout the 1930s, Bondi played supporting roles in numerous films, earning critical acclaim and two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She is perhaps best remembered for her poignant portrayals of mothers, particularly in her collaborations with James Stewart in four notable films: Of Human Hearts, Vivacious Lady, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and the beloved classic It's a Wonderful Life.
