Bhama Srinivasan

Bhama Srinivasan, born on April twenty-second, nineteen thirty-five, is a distinguished mathematician celebrated for her significant contributions to the representation theory of finite groups. Her academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. earned in nineteen fifty-nine at the University of Manchester, where she studied under the guidance of J. A. Green. This foundational work laid the groundwork for her future endeavors in modular representations.

Throughout her career, Srinivasan has held a prominent position as a Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her influence extends beyond her teaching, as she has mentored five doctoral students, fostering the next generation of mathematicians. Her collaborative research with Paul Fong has produced numerous papers in the realms of modular representation theory and Deligne–Lusztig theory, further solidifying her reputation in the field.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Srinivasan was honored with the prestigious Noether Lecture in nineteen ninety. Additionally, she served as the president of the Association for Women in Mathematics from nineteen eighty-one to nineteen eighty-three, advocating for the representation and advancement of women in the mathematical sciences.
