He emerged onto the hip-hop scene in 1992, quickly gaining recognition among underground fans for his exceptional freestyling skills. In 1995, Big L made a significant mark in the music world with the release of his debut studio album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, under Columbia Records. This album showcased his remarkable wordplay and solidified his reputation as a formidable talent in the rap genre. Critics from AllMusic, HipHopDX, and The Source have lauded him for his lyrical ability, with Henry Adaso even describing him as one of the most talented poets in hip-hop history.

Tragically, Big L's life was cut short when he was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Harlem on February 15, 1999. His untimely death left a void in the hip-hop community, but his legacy continues to influence artists and fans alike, ensuring that his contributions to music are never forgotten.
