Biljana Plavšić

Biljana Plavšić, born on July seventh, nineteen thirty, is a notable figure in Bosnian history, recognized for her dual roles as a politician and a university professor. Before her political career, she dedicated herself to academia, teaching biology at the University of Sarajevo, where she made significant contributions to the field of science.

Her political journey led her to become the President of Republika Srpska, a position that placed her at the center of the tumultuous events during the Bosnian War. Plavšić's leadership was marked by controversy, and she was later indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in two thousand one for her involvement in war crimes.

In two thousand three, she entered a plea bargain with the ICTY, resulting in an eleven-year prison sentence, which she served in Sweden. After completing two-thirds of her sentence, she was released on October twenty-seventh, two thousand nine. Plavšić remains one of the highest-ranking Bosnian Serb politicians to face conviction for crimes against humanity, alongside Radovan Karadžić.
