Biljana Srbljanović, born on October fifteenth, nineteen seventy, is a distinguished Serbian playwright and university professor renowned for her impactful contributions to theater and human rights advocacy. With a prolific career, she has penned eleven theater plays and the screenplay for the popular television series 'Otvorena vrata,' which aired on Radio Television of Serbia during the mid-nineties.
Her works have transcended borders, being staged in approximately fifty countries, showcasing her talent and the universal themes she explores. In addition to her writing, Srbljanović serves as a part-time lecturer at the University of Arts' Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, where she inspires the next generation of artists.
On December first, nineteen ninety-nine, she made history by becoming the first non-German writer to receive the prestigious Ernst Toller Prize. Her accolades include numerous theater awards in Serbia, such as the Dragiša Kašiković Award, Slobodan Selenić Award, City of Belgrade Award, Joakim Vujić Statuette, and the Sterija Award.
In recognition of her dedication to promoting human rights, democracy, and tolerance in political communication, she was honored with the Osvajanje slobode Award in two thousand three, presented by the Serbian Civic Alliance. Furthermore, in two thousand seven, she received the IX Europe Prize Theatrical Realities in Thessaloniki, solidifying her status as a leading figure in contemporary theater.
