Bill de Blasio

Bill de Blasio, born on May 8, 1961, in Manhattan, is an American politician and lawyer who made significant contributions to New York City during his tenure as the 110th mayor from 2014 to 2021. Raised primarily in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he pursued higher education at New York University and Columbia University, which laid the foundation for his political career.

Before becoming mayor, de Blasio served as the New York City Public Advocate from 2010 to 2013 and was a member of the New York City Council, representing Brooklyn's 39th district from 2002 to 2009. His political journey included working as a campaign manager for notable figures such as Charles Rangel and Hillary Clinton, showcasing his commitment to public service.

During his time as mayor, de Blasio focused on addressing economic inequality, famously referring to it as a 'tale of two cities.' He championed progressive policies, including the implementation of a free universal pre-kindergarten program and the ThriveNYC mental health initiative. His administration also emphasized police reform and the reduction of cannabis possession prosecutions.

After being term-limited, de Blasio was succeeded by Eric Adams on January 1, 2022. He briefly entered the race for the Democratic primaries in the 2020 presidential election but suspended his campaign in September 2019 due to low poll numbers. In 2022, he attempted to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in the newly redrawn 10th congressional district but withdrew before the primary.
