Bill Norrie

Bill Norrie, born on January twenty-first, nineteen twenty-nine, served as the thirty-ninth Mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba. His tenure was marked by a commitment to public service and community engagement, which extended beyond his political career.

In addition to his role as mayor, Norrie held the esteemed position of Chancellor at the University of Manitoba. His dedication to the community was evident through his involvement in various charitable organizations, including a notable chairmanship of the United Way of Winnipeg's annual campaign.

Tragedy struck in August nineteen ninety-two when Norrie's son, Duncan, lost his life in a plane crash over Nepal. In memory of Duncan, a street in Winnipeg was named in his honor, reflecting the family's enduring legacy in the city.

Later in life, Norrie served as the Honorary Consul-General of Japan, a role that underscored his commitment to fostering international relations. His contributions were recognized in Spring two thousand nine when he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, a prestigious honor from Japan.
