Billy Kidd

Billy Kidd, born on April 13, 1943, is a celebrated former World Cup alpine ski racer who made his mark as a member of the U.S. Ski Team from 1962 to 1970. His remarkable career began to shine at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, where he, alongside teammate Jimmie Heuga, became the first American men to earn Olympic medals in alpine skiing, securing silver and bronze in the slalom event.

Six years later, Kidd achieved further glory at the 1970 World Championships in Val Gardena, Italy, where he won a gold medal in the combined event and a bronze in the slalom. This impressive feat was complemented by his transition to professional ski racing, where he thrived from 1970 to 1972. Notably, he became the only racer in history to win both FIS and Pro titles in the same year, clinching the World Pro Ski Tour World Championships in 1970.

Since his competitive days, Kidd has maintained a legendary status within the sport of skiing. From 1970 to 2024, he served as the Director of Skiing at Steamboat Ski Resort in Colorado, ensuring his presence in the skiing community and inspiring future generations of athletes.
