Birutė

Birutė, born in the year 1325, holds a significant place in Lithuanian history as the Grand Duchess of Lithuania. She was the second wife of Kęstutis, the Grand Duke, and the mother of the renowned Vytautas the Great, a pivotal figure in the region's past.

Despite the limited information available about her life, Birutė's legacy endures. Her marriage to Kęstutis not only solidified political alliances but also contributed to the cultural fabric of Lithuania during a transformative period.

Following her death, a cult dedicated to her memory emerged, particularly among the people of Samogitia. This phenomenon highlights the deep respect and reverence that Lithuanians have for her, suggesting that her influence extended far beyond her lifetime.
