Bivin of Gorze

Bivin of Gorze, born in the year eight hundred and ten, was a notable Frankish nobleman who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Bivinid family. His legacy is marked by his influential position as a lay abbot of the Gorze Abbey, where he contributed to the spiritual and administrative life of the community.

In his personal life, Bivin was married to a daughter of Boso the Elder, who is believed to have been named Richildis. This union not only solidified his status but also connected him to other prominent figures of the time.

Bivin's lineage includes several significant historical figures. His daughter, Richilde of Provence, became the wife of King Charles the Bald, further intertwining the Bivinid family with royal bloodlines. Additionally, his son Richard the Justiciar served as Duke of Burgundy and was the father of a future king of France. Another son, Boso, ascended to the throne as King of Provence, while there is a possibility that another offspring, Bivin, held the title of Count of Metz.
