Bjarke Ingels

Bjarke Ingels, born on October second, nineteen seventy-four, is a prominent Danish architect and university teacher, renowned for his innovative approach to architecture. He is the founder and creative partner of the Bjarke Ingels Group, commonly known as BIG, which has made significant strides in the architectural landscape since its inception in two thousand six.

Ingels gained recognition in Denmark with his designs for the VM Houses and Mountain Dwellings in Ørestad. His firm, BIG, expanded rapidly, employing four hundred talented individuals by two thousand fifteen. Among its notable projects are the iconic 8 House housing complex, the striking VIA 57 West in Manhattan, and the environmentally conscious Amager Resource Center, which uniquely features a ski slope and climbing wall integrated into its exterior.

Since two thousand nine, Ingels has been a frequent winner of architectural competitions, showcasing his ability to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. After relocating to New York City in two thousand twelve, he continued to make waves in the architectural community, particularly with BIG's design contest victory aimed at enhancing Manhattan's flood resistance following Hurricane Sandy.
