Björn Gelotte, born on August 27, 1975, is a prominent Swedish guitarist and songwriter, renowned for his exceptional skills as the lead guitarist of the heavy metal band In Flames. His musical journey began in 1995 when he joined the band as a drummer, contributing to their early works, including the critically acclaimed albums The Jester Race and Whoracle.
In a significant career shift, Gelotte transitioned to the role of lead guitarist after Niclas Engelin's departure from the band. Since the release of Colony in 1999, he has exclusively focused on guitar, sharing lead and rhythm guitar responsibilities with former bandmate Jesper Strömblad. This change marked a new era for both Gelotte and In Flames, solidifying their place in the heavy metal genre.
Gelotte's talent has not gone unnoticed; in March 2004, he and Strömblad were honored with a ranking of No. 70 in Guitar World's list of the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of all time. This recognition underscores his influence and contribution to the heavy metal scene, showcasing his unique style and technical prowess.
