Björn Þórðarson

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Björn Þórðarson

Björn Þórðarson, born on February sixth, eighteen seventy-nine, was a prominent figure in Icelandic politics, serving as the Prime Minister from December sixteenth, nineteen forty-two, to October twenty-first, nineteen forty-four. His tenure is particularly notable as it marked the only government in Iceland's history that did not rely on parliamentary support.

During his time in office, Björn played a crucial role in Iceland's transition to a republic, a significant milestone in the nation's history. His leadership coincided with a period of great change, as Iceland navigated the complexities of World War II and the subsequent occupation by the United States.

His cabinet, often referred to as the Coca-Cola rule, gained attention for its unique composition. Two of its ministers, Vilhjálmur Þór from the Progressive Party and Björn Ólafsson, ventured into the business world by establishing franchises of major American companies during the occupation. Vilhjálmur took on Esso, while Björn Ólafsson later became a member of the Alþingi and founded Vífilfell, the company responsible for selling Coca-Cola in Iceland.
