Blanka Vlašić

Blanka Vlašić, born on November eighth, nineteen eighty-three, is a distinguished Croatian former track and field athlete renowned for her exceptional prowess in the high jump. As a double world champion and an indoor world champion, she has also earned the honor of being a two-time Olympic medallist. Vlašić's remarkable personal best of two point zero eight meters, or six feet nine and three-quarters inches, stands as a Croatian record and ranks as the joint third best mark in the history of the sport.

The daughter of Joško Vlašić, a Croatian decathlon record holder, Blanka exhibited her athletic talent from a young age. She made her Olympic debut at the age of sixteen during the two thousand Sydney Games. Her early career was marked by success, as she clinched the World Junior Championships in Athletics titles in both two thousand and two thousand two, showcasing her potential on the global stage.

In two thousand four, Vlašić broke the Croatian national record and secured her first senior world medal at the World Indoor Championships. However, her journey faced challenges due to a hyperthyroid condition that affected her performance during her second Olympic appearance in Athens. After undergoing surgery, she took the time to recuperate and returned to competition in two thousand six, where she earned a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships.

The year two thousand seven marked a turning point in her career, as she triumphed at the World Championships and continued her winning streak by becoming the indoor world champion in two thousand eight. Although she narrowly missed gold at the Beijing Olympics that year, she secured a silver medal. Vlašić's accolades continued to grow, as she became World Champion for the second time in two thousand nine and was honored with the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award in two thousand ten, along with the European Athlete of the Year trophy in two thousand seven and two thousand ten.
