Bo'orchu

Bo'orchu, born in the year one thousand one hundred fifty-nine, emerged as one of the earliest and most steadfast allies of Genghis Khan. Their friendship began in childhood when a young Temujin sought to reclaim his stolen horses. Bo'orchu, demonstrating his loyalty and bravery, assisted Temujin in this endeavor, returning with him to his father, Nakhu Bayan, who was understandably distressed by the boy's absence.

As their bond deepened, Bo'orchu became a nökör, or 'free companion,' to Temujin, leaving his own family behind. His loyalty was further tested when Temujin's wife, Börte, was kidnapped by the Merkits. Bo'orchu, alongside Belgutei and Jelme, undertook the perilous task of spying on their enemies, showcasing his commitment to Temujin's cause.

With Temujin's ascension as Genghis Khan, Bo'orchu was appointed as the head of the Khan's followers, a testament to his unwavering support. During a critical battle against the Tatars at Dalannemurges, he selflessly sheltered Genghis Khan from the rain, earning the Khan's gratitude and respect for his steadfastness throughout the night.

Bo'orchu's valor was further exemplified during a confrontation with Jamukha at the Khalakhaljid Sands, where he was shot off his horse yet managed to steal an enemy steed and return to assist in locating the enemy's position. His reputation as a trusted friend extended to Ögedei, Genghis Khan's son and the second ruler of the Mongol Empire.

Today, Bo'orchu is honored in modern Mongolia with a statue in front of the Government Palace in Sükhbaatar Square, Ulaanbaatar, where he stands alongside Muqali, flanking a grand statue of Genghis Khan, symbolizing his enduring legacy.
