Bob Behnken

Bob Behnken, born on July 28, 1970, is a distinguished American engineer and former NASA astronaut, recognized for his significant contributions to space exploration. With a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, Behnken has also achieved the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force, where he served prior to his tenure at NASA, which began in two thousand.

Throughout his career, Behnken participated in two Space Shuttle missions: STS-123 in two thousand eight and STS-130 in two thousand ten. As a mission specialist, he accumulated over seven hundred eight hours in space, including fifty-five hours dedicated to spacewalks, showcasing his expertise and commitment to advancing human spaceflight.

From two thousand twelve to two thousand fifteen, Behnken held the prestigious position of Chief of the Astronaut Office, guiding the next generation of astronauts. In two thousand eighteen, he was assigned to the SpaceX Dragon 2 as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, marking a pivotal moment in space history.

On May 30, two thousand twenty, Behnken launched aboard the Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission alongside fellow astronaut Doug Hurley, becoming one of the first two astronauts to fly on a commercial orbital spacecraft. Their journey to the International Space Station (ISS) lasted sixty-two days, during which Behnken completed four spacewalks with NASA astronaut Christopher Cassidy, further solidifying his legacy in the annals of space exploration.
