Bob Cousy

Bob Cousy, born on August ninth, nineteen twenty-eight, is a celebrated American former professional basketball player, coach, and actor. He is best known for his time as a point guard with the Boston Celtics from nineteen fifty to nineteen sixty-three, where he became a pivotal figure in the team's early dynasty, securing six NBA championships during his thirteen-year career. Cousy briefly played for the Cincinnati Royals in the nineteen sixty-nine to seventy season.

Renowned for his exceptional skills, Cousy earned the nickname 'The Houdini of the Hardwood' and was a thirteen-time NBA All-Star. His remarkable ability to handle the ball and deliver assists led him to be the NBA assists leader for eight consecutive seasons. He was the first player to achieve the milestones of four thousand, five thousand, and six thousand career assists, solidifying his legacy as the first great point guard in NBA history.

Cousy’s journey began in high school, where he made the varsity squad as a junior. He later earned a scholarship to the College of the Holy Cross, leading the Crusaders to the NCAA Tournament in nineteen forty-eight and nineteen fifty, while also receiving NCAA All-American honors for three seasons. After being drafted third overall by the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in the nineteen fifty NBA draft, he ultimately joined the Boston Celtics, where he made his mark.

After retiring from playing, Cousy transitioned into coaching, serving as a college basketball coach and later as the head coach for the Cincinnati Royals. His contributions to the sport were recognized when he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in nineteen seventy, prompting the Celtics to retire his number fourteen jersey. He was also honored as a member of the NBA's anniversary teams, including the twenty-fifth, thirty-fifth, fiftieth, and seventy-fifth anniversary teams.

In addition to his basketball achievements, Cousy was the first president of the National Basketball Players Association. His impact on the sport was further acknowledged when he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump on August twenty-second, two thousand nineteen.
