He honed his skills at Churchill High School before advancing to the University of Manitoba, where he played college basketball from nineteen sixty-seven to nineteen seventy-two. His exceptional talent was recognized when he was named a CIAU All-Canadian in nineteen seventy-two.

As a member of the Canadian men's national basketball team from nineteen seventy-two to nineteen seventy-six, Town showcased his abilities on various international stages, including the World University Games in Moscow, the Pan Am Games, and the Montreal Olympics, where Canada achieved a commendable fourth place finish in nineteen seventy-six.

In addition to his national team achievements, Town played for the St. Andrews Super Saints, leading the team to victory in the Canadian Senior Men's Championship in both nineteen seventy-five and nineteen seventy-six. His contributions to the sport were honored when he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in two thousand seven.
