Bobi Wine

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, widely recognized as Bobi Wine, was born on February 12, 1982. He is a multifaceted Ugandan figure, known for his roles as a politician, musician, businessperson, boxer, and film actor. As the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), he has emerged as a prominent voice against the long-standing government of Yoweri Museveni.

Before his political ascent, Wine served as a Member of Parliament for the Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District. His political journey took a significant turn in June 2019 when he declared his candidacy for the 2021 Ugandan presidential election. Despite the official results indicating a loss to Museveni, Wine has consistently claimed that the election was marred by fraud.

In December 2021, Wine faced severe government repression when he was placed under house arrest, a situation that sparked widespread protests. Following his release, he traveled abroad to work on a documentary titled 'The Corruption Involved in the 2021 Election,' which highlighted the electoral malpractices he encountered. His experiences during this tumultuous period were captured in the Peabody Award-winning documentary film 'Bobi Wine: The People's President.'

On February 7, 2025, the NUP hosted a groundbreaking public debate for candidates in the Kawempe North by-election, marking a first in Uganda's political landscape.
