Bonnie Crombie, born on February fifth, nineteen sixty, is a prominent Canadian politician and businesswoman. She served as the sixth mayor of Mississauga from two thousand fourteen until two thousand twenty-four, and she was the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party from two thousand twenty-three to two thousand twenty-six.
Crombie's political journey began when she was elected as the member of Parliament for Mississauga—Streetsville, serving from two thousand eight to two thousand eleven as a member of the Liberal Party. Following her tenure in Parliament, she transitioned to local politics, becoming a councillor for Ward five on Mississauga City Council and a member of the Peel Regional Council from two thousand eleven to two thousand fourteen.
In the two thousand fourteen municipal election, Crombie was elected mayor of Mississauga. Her leadership style was characterized by a fiscally conservative approach, which she showcased during her successful campaign for the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party in two thousand twenty-three, where she emerged victorious on the third ballot against more left-leaning candidates.
On January twelfth, two thousand twenty-four, Crombie resigned as mayor to concentrate on her role as party leader, which led to a by-election for the mayoral position. However, after a leadership review in September two thousand twenty-five, where she garnered only fifty-seven percent support, she announced her resignation as leader on January fourteenth, two thousand twenty-six, with plans for a successor to be determined later.
