Brott was particularly renowned for his innovative approaches to making classical music accessible to diverse audiences.

As the founder and artistic director of the Brott Music Festival, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada, and BrottOpera, all based in Hamilton, Ontario, he played a pivotal role in promoting Canadian music. His dedication to the arts extended to commissioning, performing, and recording a wide array of Canadian orchestral works, thereby enriching the cultural landscape.

In addition to his work in Canada, Brott served as the founding Music Director and Conductor Laureate of the New West Symphony in Thousand Oaks, California. He also held the position of artistic director and conductor of the Orchestre classique de Montreal, formerly known as the McGill Chamber Orchestra.
