Boris Yegorov

Boris Yegorov, born on November 26, 1937, in Moscow, Soviet Union, was a pioneering physician and cosmonaut who made history as the first physician to journey into space. He completed his medical education at the Moscow Medical Institute, graduating in 1961, and later earned a doctorate specializing in disorders of the sense of balance.

Yegorov's remarkable career took a significant turn when he was selected as part of the multi-disciplinary team for the Voskhod 1 mission. His selection was possibly influenced by his father's connections within the Politburo, highlighting the intricate ties between politics and space exploration during that era.

On October 19, 1964, Yegorov was honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, a testament to his contributions to space science and medicine. His journey into space not only marked a milestone for the Soviet space program but also for the medical community, showcasing the importance of health professionals in space missions.
