Her political journey began with her membership in the Croatian Democratic Union in nineteen ninety-five. Krišto's experience includes serving as the Federal Minister of Justice from two thousand three to two thousand seven. Following her tenure in this role, she became the eighth president of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in February two thousand seven, a position she held until March two thousand eleven.

Despite her notable achievements, Krišto faced challenges in her political aspirations. She was a candidate for the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers in June two thousand eleven but was not nominated. Additionally, she ran for a seat in the Bosnian Presidency as a Croat member in the general elections of two thousand ten and twenty twenty-two, but unfortunately did not secure a victory in either election.
